4th Annual Millikin Undergraduate Mathematics Research Conference

Hello from the Co-Chairs of the 4th Annual Millikin Undergraduate Mathematics Research Conference:

We want to encourage you, your colleagues, and your undergraduate students to participate in the 4th annual Millikin Undergraduate Mathematics Research Conference (formerly the Illiana Undergraduate Mathematics Research Conference) on Saturday, November 6, 2010, at Millikin University in Decatur , IL . This year's keynote speaker will be Dr. Nicholas Baeth from the University of Central Missouri .

This conference is FREE to all student and faculty participants. Continental breakfast, lunch, and snacks are provided.

Starting in 2007, this conference was created with the following goals in mind.

• Create a forum for undergraduates to present results from this year's summer undergraduate research experiences. The material from these summer experiences will still be fresh in the students' minds, and the summer's momentum will undoubtedly help their motivation for putting a talk together.

• Provide an opportunity for students to demonstrate to graduate schools and potential employers their abilities to engage in advanced mathematics and to disseminate their results. Students will be able to refer to this experience on applications, in resumes, and in interviews.

• Promote interest in mathematics among undergraduates. Students who wish to speak on topics outside of summer research experiences are welcome to do so, and we strongly encourage any interested undergraduates to attend this conference, whether they wish to speak or they wish to be a conference participant.

Registration information can be found at http://faculty.millikin.edu/~jstickles/MUMRC.html

Funding for the Millikin Undergraduate Mathematics Research Conference provided by NSF grant DMS-0846477 through the MAA Regional Undergraduate Mathematics Conferences Program, http://www.maa.org/RUMC.

Please note that the deadline for registration is Monday, November 1, 2010.

We hope you will be able to join us in November!
