The award for Distinguished Service to the Illinois Section of the Mathematical Association of America is to be given each year at the Annual Meeting to a friend and supporter of the Section and its programs. The recipient must have been a member of the MAA residing in Illinois for at least ten years. Longevity alone will not qualify a person for the Distinguished Service Award. The recipient must have served as the chair of a standing committee or as an officer of the Section. The persons selected for the Distinguished Service Award shall be characterized as those who have made the Illinois Section better able to fulfill its purpose -- improving education in the mathematical sciences at the collegiate level.
The Awards Committee is always seeking nominations for the Illinois Section Distinguished Service Award. Nominations are accepted at any time. The deadline for next year's award is December 31 of this year.
The recipient will be selected by the Committee on the basis of the extent and quality of her/his service to the Illinois Section. The intent will be to select someone who, because of excellent service to the Illinois Section, is known regionally though, perhaps, not nationally. Previous winners of the Award for Distinguished Service are not eligible.
Persons wishing to nominate an individual for the award are to submit the information requested on the nomination form. Supporting letters are not required, but if any are to be considered, they should be sent with the nomination form.
Please send the completed form to the Awards Committee in care of Jon Johnson, Secretary/Treasurer. Nominations may be sent by regular or e-mail to:.

It has been a practice of the Section to keep the names of the nominees and the recipient selected confidential so that the presentation of the award at the annual section meeting is a surprise.
